Shinall Family Annual Reunion At Meadowview

Descendants of J. A. Shinall, Numbering More Than One Hundred, Gathered For Delightful Program.

The Shinall family, descendants of the late J. A. Shinall, who crossed over the river into a better land nearly twenty years ago, gathered last Sunday in their annual reunion. Meadowview Farm, better known as the Ruohs Pyron place, five miles north of town, on the Tennessee road, was the meeting place, and relatives and friends came from far and near to enjoy the occasion. J. A. Shinall was twice married. His first wife was Hulda Woods, and by their union eighteen children were born. Of this number, the following, with their own descendants survive: Joe Shinall, seven children, ten grandchildren. Mrs. F. L. Lewis, ten children, forty seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Dan Shinall, ten children. Mrs. G. T. Lewis, six children, 27 grandchildren. Mrs. A. D. Harris, five children, six grandchildren. T. W. Shinall, five children. W. F. Shinall, three children. Mrs. B. K. Morris, three children.

Two children of the late Berry Shinall, who died many years ago, were present in the persons of Mrs. J. J. Tidwell, of Center, and Mrs. M. E. Bell, of Marietta, the latter being the mother of six children. The late Mrs. M. A. Black was the mother of four children, who are Messrs. Jim, Edward, Homer and Frank Black.

For his second wife, Mr.. Shinall married Mrs. Mary Knowles, who died only a few years ago. She was the mother of four stalwart sons who are Rob and Roy, Gus and Arthur Shinall. Large Number Present. Not all of the family connections were present last Sunday, but there were present more than one hundred and thirty and fifty-three of those present bear the honored name of their worthy sire. In addition, there were eighteen "outsiders," and all present were made to feel welcome and they, too, enjoyed this annual gathering. It was unanimously agreed to meet again on the third Sunday in August, next, at Rowland Springs when it is believed the number present will be even larger.
