"Mrs. Calvin Ward Died Wednesday At Adairsville.

Prominent Matron Passes In 83rd Year After a Long Illness--Funeral Thursday.

Adairsville, Ga., April 12--(Special to the Tribune-News) ---Friends were shocked late Wednesday afternoon to learn of the passing of Mrs. Calvin J. Ward, beloved Bartow County matron, who died at her home near Adairsville following a long illness.

Impressive funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon from Mt. Carmel church, Rev. Amos B. Cash, assisted by Rev. T. C. Ford, officiating in the presence of a large following of sorrowing relatives and friends. Interment was in the church cemetery, the following serving as pallbearers: Messrs. Cleve and Charlie Lanham, E.M. Penfield, Charlie Harris, Glenn Clemmons, and Charlie McDonald.

Born in Bartow county, Mrs. Ward was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Shaw, pioneer settlers who came here many years ago. She was married fifty-nine years ago to Mr. Ward, who preceded her in death some eight years ago. For a time she was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church, later joining the Methodist Church with her husband and children.

A devoted mother and a faithful friend, news of Mrs. Ward's death is a source of sorrow in many homes throughout this section.

Survivors include four sons, Messrs. Charles, of Cartersville; Frank, of Fort Payne, Ala; George, of Adairsville and Herbert of Marion, S.C.; four daughters, Mrs. Banna Smith of Adairsville; Mrs. W.A. Stoner, of Dalton; Mrs. D.W. Jarrett, of Cartersville; and Mrs. W. L. Shippey of Greenwood, Indiana. One sister Mrs. Bana Burns, of Arkansas, and 32 grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren also survive.

Friends extend tenderest sympathy to members of the bereaved family in their great loss.

Veach and Barton were in charge of arrangements."
