Rev. Dr. Strickland Dies.

Prominent Baptist Divine Dies Suddenly at Jackson, Tenn.

Dr. C. H. Strickland, pastor of the First Baptist church here, died suddenly tonight. He had been suffering from rheumatism. He was a confederate veteran, and attended the reunion at Atlanta, arriving home last Monday. He filled the pulpits of the First Baptist churches of Knoxville and Nashville, Tenn., and Sioux City, Iowa, coming from the latter city here last January. He was one of the ablest pulpit orators in his church. His wife is visiting in Atlanta.

The above is given in a dispatch from Jackson, Tenn. Dr. Strickland was related to the Strickland’s, of this city, and visited then during his trip to Georgia. How sad seems the notice of his visit to Georgia in the Christian Index. Among the many prominent visitors to the Confederate Veterans’ Reunion said that paper, was Dr. C. H. Strickland, pastor of First Baptist church at Jackson, Tenn. Dr. Strickland is a native of Georgia and thinking the Baptists of the state and other friends and old acquaintances would like to read about him I beg space to write briefly. Since Dr. Strickland left Georgia he has been pastor of the First Baptist churches at Nashville and Knoxville, Tenn., and the First Baptist church of Sioux City, Iowa. He was once pastor of the Curtis church, at Augusta, and of the Greensboro and Penfield churches, and was dearly beloved by the members of these churches. He is a preacher of great power, eloquence and magnetism. His host of Atlanta and other friends from many sections of the state, who met him at the reunion, were glad to see him in perfect health and wish him a long and useful and happy life.
