Since our last from this district owing to the absence and illness of your correspondent there have been many chances and changes among our people. The following lamented deaths have occurred: C.C. (“Kitt”) Hufstetler, born in Haberhsam County, April 27, 1828, and aged at the time of his death, nearly 77 years. Just returned home a few hours before from a canvassing tour, he dropped dead of heart disease, from which he had been some time a sufferer. He was engaged in organizing Farmers Unions. He leaves a widow of the same maiden name as his own, both, (as understood from himself) in the form of Hostetter, derived from the Dutch settlers of Pennsylvania. He leaves also sons and daughters, who are all married off. Enoch Washington Alford, who had been failing a number of years, died aged about 60, rather suddenly, an acute attack of grippe bringing a complication of diseases, perhaps involving heart to a fatal issue. He had been a farmer, miner and carpenter. Harmless, inoffensive and well disposed; he was esteemed respected and regretted. He leaves a wife, Caledonia, daughter of the late Coley and France Crow, and a large family of children, three married, the rest small. Mrs. Hannah, wife of Hose Lanham, died after an old age of affliction and suffering, leaving a husband and several little children. Mrs. Emma, wife of Jessie Ginn, died aged 30, lacking 2 days, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Drew H. Crow. Miss Mahala Smith, an excellent young lady fell a victim to prevailing pneumonia of season and very much regretted. [NOTES: |
