Mrs. B.C. Sloan Buried Sunday Mrs. B.C. Sloan, the former Nellie Smith, for many years postmistress of the Cassville, Ga. Post office, and well known over North Georgia, died at her residence in Cassville Friday afternoon following an illness which had extended for 12 weeks. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Cassville Baptist Church, with Rev. Ralph Kimsey and Rev. Earl Kimsey officiating. Interment following in Cassville cemetery. Mrs. Sloan was born on August 12, 1882, the daughter of Robert B. Smith and the former Sally Word. She had lived in Bartow county her entire life. Her husband, B. Creighton Sloan, preceded her in death in 1932. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. William M. Thomas, Indianapolis, Ind., Mrs. S.R. Atwood, Stilesboro, Mrs. L.C. Crowe, Cassville, Misses Emily and Carolyn Sloan, Cassville; three sons, B.C. Sloan, Jr., Cassville, Robert S. Sloan, Marietta, Jack S. Sloan, Washington, D.C.; four sisters, Mrs. Bertha Layton, Sycamore, Ga., Mrs. Max Pittard, Mrs. M.O. Crawford, Atlanta, Mrs. C.H. Pittard, Cartersville; and three brothers, Roy Smith, Jacksonville, Fla., Hunter C. Smith, Miami and Richard Smith, Marietta. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Martha, Nell, Jimmy, Mary, Robert and Rodney Sloan and Jerry Thomas. Active pall bearers were Gordon Holt, Bill Matthews, Lindsay Shinall, E.C. Goode, John Headden, and Dewey Galt. |
