Death of a Mother in Israel.

One by one the landmarks are disappearing.  We have to chronicle the death of Mrs. ELIZABETH B. ROBERTS, of this place, who died at 3 o’clock last Saturday evening.  The deceased was truly a “mother in Israel.”  She has been ill for eight weeks, and died at the age of 72 years and 11 months.  She has been a consistent member of the M. E. Church, South, for fifty-one years.  She was beloved by all who knew her as the kind attentions of her neighbors during her illness fully attested.  They lingered by her sick bed like children waiting for the departure of a sainted spirit.  Her admonitions hovered over the hearts of children as guardian angels and her kindness and charity were felt by all who came in her way needing them.  Her death, therefore, was victory to a pure spirit.  Her loss to family, friends, and religion, it is true, is serious.  Her life was an exemplification of Christian love and purity.  The bereaved have the sympathies of all while we know the loss of society is her eternal gain. [Another obituary on page 3 of the April 18, 1878 issue states “Mrs. Elizabeth Roberts was born in Washington county, East Tennessee, May 5th, 1805, and died in Cartersville, Ga., April 6th, 1878.”
