Deplorable Accident.
Alabama Farmer and Daughter Meet Horrible Death Under Wheels.

A terrible and deplorable accident happened near West Point, Ga., about 9 o’clock last Sunday morning.  Fred Johnson a respectable and well to do farmer of Lee county, Alabama, 65 years old and his daughter, Mrs. Pulles, 33 years old were driving together in a buggy to West Point when at Hill’s Crossing about 2 ½ miles from this place, their vehicle was struck by the north bound passenger train No. 38 on the Atlanta and West Point railroad, and they were instantly killed.  The train was running at the rate of 70 miles an hour and went on some distance before it could be stopped.  Then the engineer backed back slowly in search of the bodies and to see if any assistance could be rendered.  Upon reaching the crossing where the accident occurred, there was no sign of the bodies on either side of the track, the only traces being the shattered vehicle.  But to the engineer’s horror when he left his cab and made a search, he found the bodies of both the victims of the accident on the pilot of his engine locked in each other’s arms and both in the embrace of death.  The bodies were taken from the pilot and carried to West Point where they were prepared for burial.
