Death of Mr. W. R. Montcastle.

W. R. Mountcastle was born in Petersburg, Va., Dec. 21 st 1817, and died in Cartersville, Ga., July 3 rd, 1893, age 75 years, 6 months and 12 days. The subject of this notice was married to Miss Elizabeth Manning, of Mecklenburg county, Va., Sep. 5 th 1839. Sixteen children were born to them, eleven of them lived to be grown. There are five sons and three daughters still living.

Mr. Mountcastle moved from Virginia to North Carolina in 1844, and lived in that state till 1857. He moved then to Cartersville in 1857 where he lived till the time of his death. He was a quiet unobtrusive man, but still with strong convictions and pronounced in his expression of his views. His life was a very sweet one, tender in his intercourse with his fellowmen, never doing any one the slightest harm if he knew it. Among his loved ones in his home he was as tender and gentle as a woman. He never was involved in any sort of litigation. He never had a case in court himself, nor had one against, appeared as a witness only one time in his long life, and then to testify to the value of a watch that had been stolen. His life closed without a struggle. Indeed the closing was eminently fitting to the life he had lived. He passed away like an infant going to sleep in its mother’s arms. Peace to his ashes. Blessings on his loved ones who are left behind.
