Death of Dr. Memmler.

Dr. F. W. Memmler, well known as a specialist throughout this section, died suddenly, or by suicidal intent, from the effects of an overdose of some powerful narcotic, on Wednesday morning of last week.  He was removing his family back to this place from Marietta, where he had resided a few years past.  The furniture, etc., had only been gotten into the house by night and Col. Graham’s family had not finished moving out.  About one o’clock it was noticed that Dr. Memmler was in a critical condition.  Dr. Baker was hurriedly sent for, and on arriving soon stated that the man was in a dangerous and almost hopeless condition, from having taken an overdose of some powerful narcotic.  Restoratives were vigorously applied, but it was too late and by daylight he was dead.

The funeral ceremony took place on Friday morning, conducted by Rev. W. R. McConnell, rector of the Episcopal Church.  At the conclusion of these services at the grave Mr. A. C. Ladd delivered a feeling and beautiful address, in which he referred to the noble virtues of the dead and invoked the veil of charity for his foibles, and concluded with an earnest prayer for the peace of the departed soul, and that it may be permitted to return to earth, giving his loved ones and friends the benefit of that increased wisdom which results from entering into the broader and deeper knowledge of the realm beyond our mortal sight.
