Samuel Earle Martin, otherwise familiarly known as “Pompey,” sixth son of the late Captain Willis and Louisa Martin, died on Friday morning, 10th instant, at 4 o’clock, aged 18 years.  Since last May he had been a sufferer from rapid consumption, consequent upon being drenched, while plowing, by a spring shower, and retaining and working in wet clothes till night.  He never knew another well moment.  He was esteemed and respected as a blameless young man, modest and industrious.  He experienced the consolation of religion in his last days, and, with his fleeting breath, murmured that “he was happy.”  He was buried at Mt. Zion, Saturday, services by Rev. W. C. Lee.
