William Layton Dead.
Well Known Citizen of Cassville Passes Away Last Week.

Mr. William Layton, a prominent merchant and citizen of Cassville, died on Monday, the 14th instant, at the home of his brother, Mr. James Layton in Chattanooga.  Mr. Layton had been in bad health for some time and went up to Chattanooga about ten days ago to visit his brother and to benefit his health if possible.

Mr. Layton was born and reared in Cassville and was a highly respected citizen in that community.  He was an active member of the Baptist church and was a good Christian gentleman.

Mr. Layton was married about ten years ago to Miss Bertha Smith, of Cassville, who survives him and also two children.

His funeral was held last Wednesday morning at his residence in Cassville and the services were conducted by the pastor of the Cassville Baptist church. [A tribute of respect by the Noble Grand Lodge N. 196 I. O. O. F can be found on page 6 of the July 15, 1909 issue.]
