Impressive funeral services were held yesterday for Fred W. Knight Sr., prominent local banker, who died suddenly at his home early Tuesday morning.

The services were held at Owens Chapel and were conducted by the Rev. W. M. Twiggs, pastor of the Sam Jones Memorial Methodist Church, assisted by Dr. Albert K. Mathews, rector of the Church of the Ascension (Episcopal).  Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Frank Dodd Smith, Clyde Medlock, Dargan Cole, William N. Shadden, Ray Dellinger and Sherman Parmenter.  Honorary pallbearers were Eugene S. Ault, Jack J. Hill, Arthur Neal, Sam Howell, Gaz White, W. Clayton Henson, Lawson Jackson, Adm. W. Conyers Fite, Ed Martin, Grady Allison, and members of the board of directors of the First National Bank.

The son of Mrs. James W. Knight and the late Mr. Knight, the deceased was raised in Cartersville and worked with his father in the operation of the Knight Mercantile Company.

In 1929 he became associated with The First National Bank of Cartersville and has remained with that firm since, rising to the post of vice-president and cashier at the time of his death.  He was also a member of the board of directors. 

Mr. Knight was a veteran of World War I and a charter member of the Cartersville Rotary Club.  He was one of the best known and most progressive men in the community.

He is survived by his mother, his wife, the former Miss Catherine Satterfield; two sons, Fred Jr. and John Knight; a sister, Mrs. Stanley Dodd of Miami, Fla., and three brothers, Robert and Jack Knight of Cartersville and Jimmy Knight of Dalton.

All the many friends of the Knight family in Cartersville extend deepest sympathies to the family.
