Mr. James Cecil Kay

Mr. James Cecil Kay, age 80, of 541 Canard Road, died early Monday afternoon at a local hospital.
    
Mr. Kay was born in Taylorsville on July 12, 1920, the son of the late John W. Kay and Alice Moore Kay.  He was preceded in death by three brothers, Elston, Stewart and Charles Kay and by one sister, Mildred Palmer.  Mr. Kay was an inventor and manufacturer, having owned and operated Kay-Townes Antenna.  He was a TV antenna inventor and inventor of the first speaker phone and TV antenna boosters.
He was also owner of Kay-Solar Inc., a manufacturer of solar panels, and assisted NASA with the space shuttle tile problems.  He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy, and a member of Shanklin-Attaway Post No. 5 American Legion.  He was also active with the Floyd County Republican Association.
    
Survivors include his wife, Gilda Dean Kay, to whom he was married June 7, 1945; two daughters, Sandra Gentry and Sherry Childs, both of Rome; six grandchildren, Jacque Sutlief, Gilda Reichert, Walt Busby, Kevin Busby, Jimmy Childs and Jennifer Childs; three great-grandchildren, Austin Sutlief, Alexis Sutlief and Sydney Reichert; one brother, Hugh Kay, Dallas; two sisters, Alma Harris, Taylorsville and Doris Campbell, Acworth and a number of nieces and nephews.
    
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the graveside in the Taylorsville Cemetery with the Rev. Brad Prater officiating.  The Honor Guard of the Shanklin-Attaway Post No. 5 of the American Legion will be in charge of military rites.
    
Honorary pallbearers will be nephews, Darrell, Jimmy, Terry and Danny Kay and Larry and Joe Harris.
    
The family will receive friends at Daniel's Funeral Home today from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.  At other hours the family will be at the residence.
    
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association.
    
Daniel's Funeral Home has charge of arrangements for Mr. James Cecil Kay.

Funeral services for Mr. James Cecil Kay, age 80, of 541 Canard Road, who died Monday afternoon at a local hospital, will be held today at 2 p.m. at the graveside in the Taylorsville Cemetery with the Rev. Brad Prater officiating.
    
The Honor Guard of the Shanklin-Attaway Post No. 5 of the American Legion will be in charge of military rites.
    
Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association, 70 Perimeter Center East, Suite 7010, Atlanta, Ga. 30346.
