R. T. Hunter, Sr. Buried Monday at Connesena Robert Thomas Hunter Sr., age 66, of Kingston, Ga., passed away in a Rome hospital at 6:22 p.m. Saturday night following a three weeks illness. Mr. Hunter was born in O’Coney County, Ga., September 1, 1890, son of the late Nathaniel David and Molly Butler Hunter, but had spent the greater part of his life in Bartow County, where he was a well-known farmer. He was a member of West Rome Church of Christ. His wife, Lillie Bell Wilson Hunter, preceded him in death January 4, 1930. Mr. Hunter was married to Mrs. Dora Kilgore on November 14, 1953, who survives him. In addition to the widow, survivors include one son, Robert Thomas Hunter Jr., of Calhoun, Rte 4; four daughters, Mrs. Hermal Jounes, of Rome; Mrs. E. E. Rogers, of Norfolk, Va.; Mrs. T. W. Kilgore and Mrs. Howard Payne, both of Kingston, Rte. 1; two brothers, F. J. Hunter, of Kingston, Rte 1, and J. S. Hunter. of Moultrie, Ga.; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Ruby Mathis, Lindale; Mrs. Ida Lee Gillaland and Mrs. Mildred Waters, both of Atlanta; three step-sons, H. S. and T. W. Kilgorre, Kingston, Rte. 1, and Kenney Kilgore Jr., of Silver Creek, Rte. 1; 25 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; 28 step-grandchildren; one great-step-grandchild and a number of nieces and netphews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Hunter Sr., were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday from the Connesena Baptist Church with the Rev. P. L. Walker, Lennie L. Polk and the Rev. Thurman Chitwood, officiating. Interment followed in the family lot in Connesena Cemetery. The remains were carried to the residence at Kingston to lie in state until time for services and pallbearers were Talmadge Hunter, Marvin Cagle, H. S. Kilgore, Clyde Mathis, Paul Clayton and Emmett Presley. |
