After a long illness which was borne with a true Christian spirit, Mrs. J. A. Howard, passed over the river to the beautiful beyond last Friday afternoon, and was interred at our cemetery Sunday morning.  The deceased was the wife of our ordinary, Judge J. A. Howard, and a sister of Messrs. John and Thomas Leake.

Death of Mrs. J. A. Howard.

Mrs. Howard, wife of Judge J. A. Howard, died on last Saturday morning at 8 o’clock.  For more than a year she had been afflicted with a painful malady that has constantly and unrelentingly, by degrees, been sapping her life away until, by wasting of constitution and strength and exhaustion of physical endurance, she yielded to the end – death.  Her sufferings were intense but she bore them with Christian resignation and courage.

Mrs. Howard was a pure, good woman, full of love to her friends and neighbors.  In her death, a loving and devoted wife, a thoughtful and affectionate mother is gone.

She was buried at Oak Hill cemetery.  The funeral services took place from the residence of Judge Howard, at 9 o’clock last Sunday morning, and were conducted by Dr. Felton.
