“Doings in Bartow--Ford.”

God has again decimated our ranks. For a purpose conceived in wisdom and His ultimate glory He called on the 17th of December, 1897, our dear sister, Mrs. Cattie Harris from her labor in our midst to her infinite reward. She was born August 11th, 1841, and was married twice. Her first husband died from exposure received during the war, when again in 1871 she married Mr. Harris, who survives her with three children out of ten. She joined the Baptist church early in life, where she remained up to the time of her death, zealously advocating the cause of her Master. In her own fatal affliction which was of long duration, she regarded it all right, ever looking up and counting it all gain to die. Her last testimony were words of cheer and comfort to our sad hearts, “Going home to Jesus.” While we cherish her memory and recount her good deeds, let us not repine, knowing that the fullest measure of God’s mercy and love is meted out in affliction and death. We deeply sympathize with the bereft ones, and trust God will lead them by His grace to that haven of rest whither this dear sister has gone, for we know from the testimony given that

She’s gone where the redeemed our coming await

To enjoy the peace of that blissful estate

Yes! Gone to the Father in heaven above,

Where the saints are all filled with the purest of love.

Gone from us all in the noontide of her life;

A mother, a sister, a sweet, gentle wife.

Yes, she’s gone above where her spirit now soars,

And her soul enjoying the sweetest repose.

Gone away from us; how we miss her sweet smiles

Yes, gone, but we feel ‘tis but a short while

When we’ll meet her again on the other side,

Where we will ever with the Savior abide.
