Death of Mr. R. L. Gaines

Mr. Richard L. Gaines died at his home on Friday morning last. He was 68 years of age.

Mr. Gaines has been a resident of Cartersville for the past four or five years, having come here from Cherokee county about the same time his son, Mr. D. R. Gaines came here and established his marble business. He had been living in Georgia at the time of his death a little over thirty years.

He was born and reared in South Carolina, his old home being at Pickens. He has numerous relatives now living in that state. He was a wagon and buggy maker by trade and was a splendid mechanic.

Mr. Gaines was recognized as a good citizen. He was quiet and unobtrusive in manner but was the very soul of honesty, say those who know him. He was a member of the Methodist church for over forty years and always lived circumspectly and in the fear of God. He leaves a wife and six children.

His funeral was conducted by Rev. Marshall McClure, of Cherokee county, assisted by Revs. Quillian and McDougall.
