“Doings in Bartow—Ford.”

In Memoriam.

Lillie Mae, the Five Year Old Daughter of R. B. and Sophia Gaines.

Thursday a. m., about 3:30 o’clock, December 16th, 1897, the death angel visited our home and claimed dear little Lillie Mae, the pet of the family, and carried her away.

Lillie Mae was her precious mother’s pet, and after her death, which occurred about two years ago, she turned her affections in double proportion toward her father and has ever been the pet of the family.

So sweet, obedient and loving a little girl as Lillie Mae was too good to live in this wicked world any longer; she always seemed to know what was right and wrong and always preferred doing right. She never needed to be scolded for anything and it would almost break her little heart to think anybody was mad with her.

She was so sweet and good as to gain the affection of anybody with whom she came in contact; and leaves many relatives and friends besides the grief-stricken family who mourn her loss.

Oh my darling sister,

“None knew thee but to love the;

None named thee but to praise.”

Though it was hard indeed to give up our precious pet we must know that “God giveth and God hath taken away.”

Lillie Mae was perfectly rational till the last moment of her life. After we all had given her up and grandmother went out of the room crying, she said: “Papa what is she crying about?” She reached out her own precious little hand and took the last dose of medicine and the last drink of water she ever drank.

No doubt but that while we were weeping over her dying body Mama was standing ready and waiting at the beautiful gate to welcome her blue-eyed darling.

Her only sister,

Clara.
