Felix Drayton Franklin.

Died last Thursday, the 15th, inst., at 12 m. o’clock.  He was born on the 23 April, 1792, in Warren county, Georgia, where he lived until 1835, when he moved to Bartow county.  He enlisted in Floyd’s command during the war of 1812.  His service as a soldier was faithful and patriotic.  In his 24th year he married Miss Nancy Roberts, who lived until 1848.  Unto Mr. and Mrs. Franklin were born six children, five of whom grew to manhood and womanhood.  A. M. Franklin, one of these children, was, for a long time, the efficient and popular sheriff of Bartow county.

For some time since Mr. Franklin had been in very feeble health, and his death was not unexpected.  Still the sad news that he had died was received by his many friends all over this community with unfeigned sorrow.  No well-defined disease carried him off, and, with the exception of a slight chest trouble, he was not sick.  But extreme old age, a gradual wearing away, a giving out of vital force, at length broke the bonds that bound him to earth and his soul returned to the God who gave it.

His was a remarkable life –remarkable for its length, remarkable for its purity and faithfulness, remarkable for the tender charity that ever characterized it!  Generation came and went –still he lived on.  His infancy was rocked in a young republic that had just emerged from a tremendous revolution – he lived to see that young republic expand and flourish and grow into a nation unparalleled in the annals of history.  At last the dread summons came and found him ready and willing to go.  We offer the sincerest sympathy to the sorrowing relations.
