Old Colored Man Murdered and Thrown in a Well.

The murderers Arrested.

One of the foulest crimes that ever blackened the history of Bartow county unearthed last week.

One of the most horrible murders ever committed in Bartow county was unearthed a few days since by the finding of the body of Simon Foster, an old negro about 70 years old in a well on Mr. J. P. Alexander’s place. Some time last January Simon married Viney Pryor, who is the mother of several grown girls. These girls were quite popular and were visited regularly by Gus, Watt and Jeff Irby. Old Simon soon became tired of their frequent visits and endeavored to put a stop to it. This resulted in numerous quarrels accompanied by blood thirsty threats. About the 29 th of March Simon suddenly disappeared, leaving all of his possessions with his wife….The three brothers were sent to jail to await their trials, Jeff Irby has since told Sheriff Burrough that Viney, old Simon’s wife, and her daughter Nora, were into the plot….” [Long article]
