Mrs. Frank Edwards and her young daughter, Mary Alice, age seven years, were burned to death, and two of her sons were so badly burned their lives were hanging in the balance, according to reports reaching Cartersville, Thursday morning from Etowah, Tennessee, where their home was burned Monday night about 9 o’clock. Discovering their house afire, the occupants were aroused and reached the outside, with the exception of the little girl. Realizing she was still n the burning structure, the mother rushed back, and while endeavoring to rescue her, the roof fell in, burying her and the child. Two older boys, Frank and Tom, 16 and 14 respectively, then tried to rescue their mother, and they were frightfully burned. The father, who is a well known engineer, running between Blue Ridge and Etowah, was not at home. With his family, he made his home in Cartersville for about a year, some three years ago. His first wife was a sister of Mr. J.A. Morris of Cartersville, Miss Lessie Morris and Mrs. Paul Rhodes, of this city attended the funeral of the victims in Etowah, Tennessee. [NOTES: The Edward family lived in Bartow County for awhile, and still had relatives in the area.] |
