OBITUARY.

The subject of this notice, CORNELIUS T. DEWEESE, was born and raised in Greenville District, S. C., was born January 1st, 1811, and died at his residence in Bartow county February 27th, 1876, aged 65 years, 1 month and 27 days.  His disease was cancer, of which he suffered for several months until death relieved him of his sufferings.  He had been for many years a peaceable and law-abiding citizen of Bartow county, respected and beloved by all who knew him, never having a difficulty or lawsuit with anyone.  He was a son of Jonathan Deweese, a Baptist minister of considerable notoriety in his day, having preached for 65 years and baptized and married more persons perhaps than any man in his day.  The subject of this notice never made any open profession of religion or joined himself to any church, but gave evidence of his preparation to meet death.  The writer of this notice visited him frequently during his sickness, and often conversed with him concerning his future prospects, of which he talked freely and with a spirit of resignation to the will of Him who holds the issues of life and death.  Therefore, his family and friends mourn not as those who have no hope. – R. B. B.
