D. J. Dawson, 89, of Route 1, Kingston, died Wednesday morning at a Rome hospital following an extended illness.   He was a native of Bartow County, born Dec. 2, 1882, a son of the late Thomas and Jennie Nichols Dawson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Callie May Calloway, who died September 6, 1964.

Survivors include four sons, Willy B. Dawson, Rome; John Thomas Dawson, Lawrence Dawson, and Clyde M. Dawson, all of Kingston; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Friday at 11 a.m. from the Macedonia Baptist Church, with the Rev. Russell Head, and the Rev. J. P. Cantrell officiating.  Interment was in Euharlee Cemetery.

Pallbearers were James, Ronnie, Bobby, and Terry Dawson, Larry McCoy, and Joe Branton.

Daniels Funeral Home of Rome was in charge of arrangements.
