Probably not a colored man ever lived in this county was better and more favorably known as old Uncle Jack Burge, whose death occurred Sunday night, and was buried Monday. By frugality and honest dealings he had accumulated some property. He was perfectly honest and his word was his bond. Before he died he made all arrangements in detail as to what disposition was to be made of his corpse. He desired that he be carried to the cemetery in his own one-horse wagon, and that a cheap coffin and clothing be purchased, and desired that no parade be had whatever. |
