We have in Bartow county, living four miles from Cartersville, one of the most remarkable old men we have ever known. He is eighty-seven years of age. That old man, who might go to the poor house if he would, is too proud to do so. He brings in a load of wood for sale nearly every day of his life, and he generally sells it. He is an example of self-reliance that hundreds might emulate. He is always cheerful and confident of his ability to make a living. Is there another such an old man in Georgia? Uncle Pat is a good old man, and we think that he has done about enough work and ought to be retired on a pension from the county. |
