Horrible and Sickening.
The Disposition an Unnatural Mother Made of Her New Born Babe.

From Stamp Creek district, this county, comes the horrible and sickening story of the disposition an unnatural and brutal mother made of her new born babe.

While working in the field on Wednesday afternoon of last week a colored woman, living on John Pipe’s place, gave birth to a child.  She threw the infant into a briar patch and coolly proceeded with her work as if nothing happened.

The new born babe remained where it had been thrown the whole afternoon and night until 10 o’clock the next morning.  It had lain with its face downward and two or three heavy rains had fallen during the night.  The next morning it was found by a laborer on the place, with its life not yet gone out.  The laborer made the woman go and get the child, but it soon died.  When found the infant had worked itself down through the briars to the ground, and by continual kicking deep imprints of its knees and chin were found in the mud.

The heartless mother became sick and is now confined to her bed, guarded by two officers.
